This article is a students response to the addition of House Bill 2281, as well as a discussion of the protests and events that followed. The historical context of this article is the implementation of House Bill 2281 which banned Ethnic Studies courses in Arizona in 2012. This article was written by Daisy Gonzales who is a first generation Mexican-American student who wanted to help try to help people understand how to help students out with the inequalities in education.
This article reflects Gonzales’ point of view as she states her direct reaction to this bill as a Latinx student. Daisy is also able to share how she hopes to help educate more people about the inequalities in the education system. The larger historical significance of this article is the unity of students and citizens to have this bill overturned and reinstate Ethnic Studies programs. This article benefits my research as it is a direct analysis from a Latinx student and their response to House Bill 2281.
